Splice to Provide the Spice

Henk Steenkamp

SPLICETHEMAINBRACE should bag another feature race win at Fairview when she lines up for the R200 000 Listed Breeders Guineas on Friday.

Only seven three-year-old fillies will take each other on over 1600m in race six, off at 15:20, on the Turf track.

Splicethemainbrace won three Listed races last season as a two-year-old in the care of champion trainer Alan Greeff.

She was a clear winner of her two starts this year, which included the Non-Black Type Aloe Stakes.

The daughter of Master Of My Fate can give her regular jockey Richard Fourie a tough time at stages, but she is well weighted to win this.

There are two Western Cape visitors who will be keen to strike if the favourite fluffs her lines.

From A Distance (Candice Bass-Robinson) should enjoy the step up in trip and a good effort is expected. Bela Vista (Justin Snaith) should also be in the mix.

The two visitors look like the main challengers to the favourite but Splicethemainbrace will be a popular banker in all bets.

The meeting starts at 12:25 with the first of the eight races.

Poetic Princess (Bass-Robinson) is visiting from Cape Town and looks too strong for her rivals in the second race, the first leg of the Place Accumulator, at 13:00.

The Pick Six starts with race three at 13:35 where Flight Engineer (Kelly Mitchley) is the favourite.

Lotus Island (Greeff) will be aiming to make it three wins in a row in race four, the first leg of Jackpot One.

With Splice to provide the spice, it should be worth giving it a go on Friday!
