Work Riders in Search of Title

Henk Steenkamp

The fierce battle to be crowned as the Champion Work Rider in the Eastern Cape will resume on Friday at Fairview.

It is still a wide open title race but the first race at Friday’s Derby Day meeting can play a major role in deciding who will be the champion this season.

After Friday’s race there will only be one more chance this season for the work riders at a meeting in July.

All eyes will be on the 12 riders when they line up for the WSB Welcomes You Work Riders Maiden Plate over 1000m.

The race starts at 11:50.

The four races this season have been won by four different riders – Hlumani Tsewu, Sibongile Liyaba, Asitandile Gwadiso and Coach Naki.

If one of them can win again on Friday, he will be in a very good position to take the title.

In a wide open race anyone of the other riders can also throw his name in the hat by winning the race.

The work riders always get huge crowd support at Fairview and the work rider races are highly popular.

Make sure you don’t miss this start to Derby Day. It’s going to be a cracking race!
