Key Inclusions

Notably, fast bowler Kagiso Rabada returns to the squad after serving a suspension for testing positive for a banned recreational substance during the SA20 competition. His inclusion is expected to bolster South Africa’s pace attack alongside Marco Jansen, Lungi Ngidi, and Dane Paterson.

Lungi Ngidi also makes a comeback to the Test side, having last played in October 2024. His experience and skill set are anticipated to add depth to the bowling unit.

Preparation and Outlook

Head coach Shukri Conrad emphasised the importance of consistency in selection and expressed confidence in the squad’s balance for the conditions expected at Lord’s.

The team will assemble in Arundel on May 31 and is scheduled to play a four-day warm-up match against Zimbabwe from June 3 to 6 before heading to London.

This final marks South Africa’s first appearance in a World Test Championship final, reflecting their strong performance throughout the WTC cycle.

The Proteas will face a formidable Australian side, aiming to clinch their first WTC title in what promises to be a highly competitive and historic encounter.
