Bettors have an eight-race card to deal with at Turffontein on Saturday and it does look quite competitive.
Those looking for a banker for the exotics could rely on Muzi Yeni in the opening leg of the BiPot and Callan Murray for the Place Accumulator, Pick 6 and Jackpot 1.
Yeni gets aboard Matcha Mint in Race 1, a Maiden Juvenile Plate for fillies over 1600m.
This Paul Matchett-trained daughter of Gimmethegreenlight has raced four times, finishing third on debut and runner-up in her last three starts. Her last two were over 1600m so there is no question she will see out the distance.
Richard Fourie rode her last time at Hollywoodbets Greyville and she looked a winner when Blizzard Quest, a gelding trained by Sean Tarry, burst through on her inside to win by a 0.40 lengths.
Matcha Mint, a half-sister to Tyrconnell, is back in fillies’ company this time and that will make her very hard to beat.
The obvious danger is Mike and Adam Azzie-trained Daisy Jones, who has also had two good runs so far in her career. She finished a two-length second behind Schipole last time over 1400m on this track and as she produced the fastest final 400m on that occasion, she should be ideally suited to the additional 200m this time.
However, Schipole did not frank that form in her next start and that form could be a little suspect. Nevertheless, she will have Gavin Lerena up and he is in breathtaking form as he chases his second Jockeys Championship. He comes off a five-timer at Turffontein yesterday to extend his lead over Fourie.
Murray has been prolific form since returning to South Africa and has ridden 22 winners since bringing home Dave The King at HWB Scottsville on 18 May.
He is riding predominantly for Mike and Mathew de Kock and he can notch up another one for the team when he climbs aboard Miss Argonaut in Race 4, a MR 100 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1160m.
This three-year-old daughter of Legislate has only raced four times for two wins, a fourth and a fifth place, but she only joined the De Kocks in February, finishing a two-length fifth behind Vihaan’s Web over 1200m at Scottsville, and then scoring an easy two-length victory over 1000m on the Inside track at Turffontein over 1000m with Murray in the irons.
That first run for the stable came after more than a year off the track so that was a decent effort, but this filly looks to have a lot more to come and looks a runner to follow.
There have not been that many of Legislate’s progeny around but what we have seen has been pretty good.
Miss Argonaut will have no issues with the additional 160m this time and does stand out as one of the best bets on the card and a banker in all bets.
Once again it is a Lerena-ridden runner that looks the main danger in One Fell Swoop. She is the proven class act in the race and trainer Tony Peter has removed the blinkers. However, she will have to give 4kg Miss Argonaut.
