Wednesday’s nine-race meeting on the Polytrack at Hollywoodbets Greyville offers bettors the ideal opportunity to cash in with TAB’s popular Place Accumulator as there seem to be three solid bankers in this seven-leg exotic.
In Race 3, an Open Maiden for fillies and mares over 1400m, Blue Poppy should have enough firepower if building on her spectacular debut five weeks ago. Despite jumping at odds of 125-1, she came close to scoring the upset of the season when finishing just 0.60-lengths in fourth behind Treasure Island over 1200m.
She lost 2 lengths at the start and was more than 10 lengths behind the frontrunner hitting the 400m marker, but a tremendous burst of speed saw her record the fastest finishing time.
Trainer Wendy Whitehead has again engaged Calvin Habib to ride Blue Poppy.
Light Of Gabriel, who finished marginally ahead of Blue Poppy, has gone on to win subsequently, so that form line looks impressive.
In Race 7, a Class 4 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1400m, Light Of Gabriel will be aiming to double up on her last win.
It is, however, the team De Kock-runner Ovation Star who gets the nod after her runaway victory on debut when she finished 6 lengths clear of second-placed Kali Bwana over 1200m on the polytrack.
This three-year-old daughter of Rafeef has been given a rating of 90 after that solitary run, so she seems highly regarded. Sean Veale takes over the reins from Callan Murray.
In Race 8, a B Stakes sprint over 1000m, it is difficult to see Future Flo not making the frame. Trained by Michael Roberts, this Futura gelding is the epitomy of consistent. His last 11 runs saw him record five wins, three runner-up finishes and three thirds.
He has been consistent at this level and despite having last raced 73 days ago, his record racing fresh is impeccable.
Future Flo again has the services of jockey Rachel Venniker. The pair have featured in the Place Accumulator no less than 18 times in their 23 outings together, which includes five wins.
