The Pretoria Capitals have secured their place in the 2026 SA20 final after a commanding 7-wicket victory over Sunrisers Eastern Cape in Qualifier 1 at Kingsmead Stadium in Durban on Wednesday night. Led by standout performances from young stars Dewald Brevis and Bryce Parsons, the Capitals chased down the Sunrisers’ target with comfort, finishing on 172/3 in 18.3 overs to beat 170/7 and punch their ticket to the season decider at Newlands in Cape Town on Sunday.

In a match that held huge stakes, the Sunrisers, top of the table after the league stage, elected to bat first and posted a competitive 170/7, anchored by a half-century from Jonny Bairstow and support from Jordan Hermann. However, the Pretoria Capitals responded emphatically in their chase. A superb innings of 75 off 38 balls from Brevis* and a vital 60 off 44 from Parsons put the Capitals in control. At the same time, a decisive bowling spell from Parsons earlier restricted the Sunrisers and shifted momentum in Pretoria’s favour.
Parsons was instrumental with both bat and ball, finishing with figures of 3/10 to dismantle the middle order before his match-defining knock in the chase. Brevis, meanwhile, lived up to his billing with an explosive display, smashing multiple boundaries and sixes to keep the required run rate well under control. Together, the duo put on a 91-run partnership that effectively ended any hope of a Sunrisers comeback.

This win marks a significant moment for the Capitals, who will now contest the SA20 final for only the second time since the competition’s inception. Their commanding performance in Qualifier 1 underscores their title credentials after a season of strong showings under pressure. As for the Sunrisers, the loss means they will now head into Qualifier 2, where they will face the winner of Thursday’s Eliminator, eager to keep their championship hopes alive.
