Klaasen made his international debut in 2018 and quickly established himself as a formidable presence in South Africa’s limited-overs teams. In One Day Internationals (ODIs), he scored 2,141 runs in 60 matches at an impressive average of 43.69, including four centuries and eleven fifties. His highest ODI score, a blistering 174 against Australia in 2023, remains one of the standout performances in recent memory.

In T20 Internationals, Klaasen featured in 58 matches, scoring 1,000 runs with a top score of 81. Known for his aggressive batting style and ability to accelerate the scoring rate, he became a vital cog in South Africa’s middle order.

Although Klaasen’s Test career was brief, comprising just four matches between 2019 and 2023, he contributed to the team as a reliable wicketkeeper and lower-order batsman. He also took on leadership responsibilities, captaining South Africa in T20Is during the 2024/25 home series against Pakistan.

Post-retirement, Klaasen is expected to focus on franchise cricket, where he has already made significant impacts. He has been a sought-after player in various leagues, including the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he represented Sunrisers Hyderabad, and the SA20 league with Durban’s Super Giants. His explosive batting and experience make him a valuable asset in the T20 format.
