Aiden Markram

Markram returns to captain the Proteas side after being rested for the Zimbabwe tri-series after his heroics in the World Test Championship final. He provides experience in the middle order, calm under pressure, and valuable off-spin as a bowling option.

Dewald Brevis

At just 22, Brevis is named in the Proteas squad again after his Test & T20I call-ups. Known as “Baby AB” for his audacious stroke play, he offers explosive power in the middle order. If he repeats his SA20 and IPL form, Brevis could prove to be a suitable replacement for Heinrich Klaasen in the Proteas’ white-ball setup.

Kwena Maphaka

At just 19, left-arm quick Kwena Maphaka is being hailed as the future spearhead of South Africa’s pace attack. He earned his Test debut in January 2025 and was quickly promoted by Coach Shukri Conrad to the main attack after senior bowlers were rested. Having already debuted in T20Is, ODIs, and the IPL (Mumbai Indians 2024, retained by Rajasthan Royals in 2025), Maphaka brings genuine speed (140 km/h+), late swing, and the rare left-arm angle.

Lungi Ngidi

With over 50 international wickets and experience in the IPL, Ngidi is set to lead the attack along with Kagiso Rabada. He combines swing, bounce, change of pace and has a knack for breaking partnerships in the powerplay and death overs. His inclusion adds experience and tempo to the new-look Proteas pace attack.
