RCB have secured their second consecutive IPL title after defeating Gujarat Titans in Sunday’s IPL 2026 final, with Virat Kohli once again producing a match-winning performance when it mattered most.

The former India captain remained unbeaten on 75 off just 42 balls, guiding Royal Challengers Bengaluru through a tense final and helping Bengaluru successfully defend the championship they won last season.
For years, one of the biggest narratives in IPL history revolved around Kohli’s pursuit of major silverware with RCB.
Now, remarkably, Bengaluru have become champions in back-to-back seasons.
Kohli Produces Another Final Masterclass
Big players often define the biggest matches. And once again, Kohli delivered under pressure.
Chasing a competitive total against one of the tournament’s strongest bowling attacks, the RCB veteran controlled the innings from the moment he arrived at the crease.
Rather than forcing the game early, Kohli balanced aggression with composure, rotating strike consistently before accelerating when Gujarat’s bowlers began searching for wickets.
His unbeaten 75 came off just 42 deliveries and included several trademark boundaries through the covers alongside calculated attacking shots against spin. Most importantly, he stayed at the crease until the finish.
That calmness ultimately proved decisive as RCB completed the chase and lifted the trophy once again.
We asked ourselves a question last year- can we go back to back?

Back-to-Back Titles Change Everything
Winning one IPL title changes a franchise. Winning two in a row changes its history.
For much of their existence, Royal Challengers Bengaluru were viewed as one of the IPL’s most entertaining teams but also one of its most frustrating underachievers.
Despite boasting legendary players throughout different eras, major trophies repeatedly slipped away. That perception has now completely changed.
Under their current core, RCB have transformed from perennial contenders into genuine champions. Back-to-back titles place them among the most successful modern IPL sides and confirm that last season’s triumph was far from a one-off.
Gujarat Titans Fall Short After Outstanding Season
For Gujarat Titans, defeat will be difficult to accept after another exceptional campaign.
The Titans were arguably the most consistent team throughout the league phase and once again demonstrated why they have become one of the IPL’s strongest franchises.
Led by Shubman Gill, Gujarat combined:
- batting depth,
- bowling discipline,
- and tactical flexibility
But finals often come down to small moments.
And against a team as experienced as RCB, Gujarat were unable to fully capitalise on key opportunities. Despite several strong individual performances during the playoffs, they ultimately ran into a Kohli masterclass.
