The 26-year-old Briton becomes the 35th driver in F1 history to claim the title, and the first from McLaren since Lewis Hamilton in 2008.
What Made It Special
Season-long consistency & clutch performance: Despite being challenged all season by Verstappen and McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri, Norris maintained composure in the season finale. A third-place finish was enough, and he delivered under pressure when it mattered most.
Ending a dynasty: Verstappen’s four-year streak was broken. Even though he claimed eight wins in 2025, the most of any driver, Norris’ points buffer proved decisive.
Team redemption and resurgence: McLaren also wrapped up the Constructors’ Championship this season, delivering a clean sweep for the historic outfit for the first time in nearly three decades.

Heading into the Abu Dhabi finale, Norris had a tight lead over rivals Verstappen and Piastri. The season-long deck of cards came down to one race, and he aced it.
