After two days with no local racing many South African fans of the sport would have been delighted to learn that last Saturday’s meeting at Hollywoodbets Scottsville had to be postponed due to inclement weather.
There was no meeting originally scheduled for Wednesday but we now we have the opportunity to enjoy the eight-race card delayed from Saturday.
It is not the easiest of cards but there are some interesting betting opportunities and the best of these looks to be Master Du Rouvray in Race 4, a Maiden Plate over 1400m.
The lightly raced three-year-old runs for trainer Mark Dixon who hasn’t had the best of starts to the year. But this Master Of My Fate gelding has only run four times and has taken a while to come to hand.
There was a lot to like about his last start when he produced the fastest final 400m to finish a 0.50-length second behind Highveld-based Kwagga Blitz. It is worth noting that he finished 12 lengths clear of the third-placed runner Tickalox.
Serino Moodley has ridden him in all of his previous starts and he will be back in the irons once again.
Mike Miller has his yard in really good from and he could provide bettors with a good finish to the meeting when he sends out Abaddon in Race 8, a Class 4 Handicap over 1200m.
The Flying The Flag gelding is a lightly raced four-year-old who has produced outstanding finishes to win two difficult races in a row.
He is running in the toughest field on the day but the fact that he beat hard knockers All The Time, Gorgeous Guy and Masterbling in his first run out of the maidens in his first run at the track on soft ground coming from the worst draw must say something about his ability.
