Give It Another Shot

Henk Steenkamp

My Best Shot is in great form and should win another feature at the Fairview Turf track on Friday.

The son of Fire Away has won his last three starts and will be looking to make it four in a row in the R250 000 Listed East Cape Guineas (race 7 of 8 on the card) over 1600m.

This is also the second leg of the Sophomore Challenge for three-year-old horses. The first leg was the Ibhayi Stakes. My Best Shot won that race with ease.

My Best Shot has won once and finished third once from as many starts over the distance.

He is the class horse and should make it win number 8 in his 14th career start. Richard Fourie will be in the saddle for the Alan Greeff stable.

My Best Shot is the horse to beat but in the champion filly Splicethemainbrace, Greeff has solid backup. She has also won her last three starts.

Keep an eye on Waheed who is making his debut for the Zietsman Oosthuizen yard in this small field of 6 runners.

He should run well and can make up the Quartet with Sakurajima (Kelly Mitchley) and the two Greeff stars.

The Guineas is not the only feature race at this good-looking meeting, the East Cape Horse Care Unit Race Day, on a public holiday.

The other race not to be missed is the R175 000 Listed East Cape Sprint Cup over 1200m – race 6 at 15:25.

This should be an exciting affair with some classy sprinters in action.

Kingdundee (Smith) was impressive when he won his comeback run last month.

He has won twice and finished second once from as many starts over track and trip. It will be exciting to see if the son of The United States can follow up.

Fairy Knight (Greeff) is also a big runner. He won his last two starts over this distance and can make it three in a row.

Khaya’s Hope (Smith) seems to be back to his best. He won his last start over 1400m and track and trip won’t be a problem. He should be in the mix.

Mercantour makes his debut for the Greeff stable. He can also be a factor and must be included in your Quartet.

The meeting starts at 12:30 and the first race is the first leg of the Bipot.

Mr Fox makes his debut for the Greeff yard in the second race and looks like a banker in the first leg of the Place Accumulator at 13:05.

Pick Six players get involved from race three at 13:40 and My Best Shot will be a popular banker.

As always’ let’s give it a go!
