Tarriance Worth Waiting for at Hamilton

Tarriance can defy a penalty and triumph in the Turn The Page And Read “Confined” Novice Stakes on Sunday at Doncaster.

The Andrew Balding-trained three-year-old must carry an extra 7lb after opening his account at Beverley recently, where he beat the reopposing Gravitas by just over 4 lengths on level terms.

Having finished third on his initial run, Tarriance was a popular choice on the Westwood and while Gravitas perhaps found his run checked at a crucial point, the winner never really looked like being beaten once he went for home 400m out.

Gravitas has the weight advantage this time, but Tarriance looks the kind to carry on improving now he has found his trip at 2400m.

Count Palatine also had his most recent start at Beverley and he is fancied to improve on that runner-up spot in the second division of the Grace And Dotty Fedoras And Feathers Handicap.

He won off a mark of 73 at Redcar in September and has been bouncing around that kind of perch since, lining up here off 2lb higher after placing on each of his last two runs.

Sam Hawkens made a good impression when winning on the all-weather and a return to turf should prove no issue in the Sky Bet, For The Fans Handicap at Hamilton.

A Salisbury winner on the grass when trained by Richard Hannon last year, Sam Hawkens had been out of luck for current handler William Haggas in three starts before prevailing at Newcastle last month.

There was plenty to like about that victory, with a handful of those in behind winning or hitting the frame in their subsequent starts.

Sam Hawkens bypassed a run at Epsom last week and that patience should pay dividends.

Sweet Thing is interesting on debut for Grant Tuer in the Sky Bet Club Handicap.

She won one of her two starts for Andy Oliver last year, with a couple of subsequent winners among the beaten horses to give some weight to the form.

Ryan Kavanagh got a good tune out of Gallant Lion recently and the pair can strike gold again in the Sky Bet Price Boosts Apprentice Handicap.

He looked good value for 0.75-lengths at Chepstow, although a subsequent 6lb hike shows the handicapper did not miss that fact.

Golden Phase looks a likely type in the H S Lester Memorial Challenge Cup “Confined” Handicap.

Restricted to horses that have not won since last year, Golden Phase arrives in comparatively good form to some of these, having placed on her two runs so far this term.

She suffered a heavy defeat as an odds-on favourite last time, but she was far too keen that day and a more measured performance here can yield a better result. – Press Association
