Walk With Greeff

Henk Steenkamp

Champion trainer Alan Greeff has big runners on Wednesday for punters to structure their bets around.

The last month of the South African racing season starts with this meeting of eight races on the Fairview Polytrack.

Greeff commented that Golden Grey (race 1) and Green Okra (race 5) just need a little bit of luck to get into the winners’ enclosure.

Walkonthewildside (race 8) is another Greeff runner which will be hard to beat.

Champion jockey Ricard Fourie suggested that Walkonthewildside steps up in trip. The Gimmethegreenlight filly tackles 2000m and looks the right one in the race.

There is a bit of a hiccup though for Greeff and the punters.

Fourie will not be at Fairview. He struggled through a panel discussion on Sunday night but was man down with the flu the next day.

He will also miss Friday’s Fairview Turf meeting but should be ready to ride in the Hollywoodbets Durban July on Saturday.

The veteran Andrew Fortune has taken over most of Fourie’s rides and should bring Golden Grey home when the Bipot starts with the first race at 12:30.

The Place Accumulator gets underway with a competitive second race at 13:05.

Pick Six players get involved from the third race at 13:40.

Punters might take a chance with those Greeff runners Green Okra and Walkonthewildside as bankers.

Gareth Wright takes over from Fourie on Walkonthewildside in the last of the day.

Greeff will give it a full go this month to get past his East Cape record of 176 winners in a season.

He is on 153 with six Fairview meetings to go.
