Sugar Mountain kept the fires burning bright at home, winning three in a row, while trainer Candice Bass-Robinson took home races like the Grade 1 Golden Horse Sprint and Grade 2 Gold Bracelet during KZN’s Champions Season.
The well-performed Silvano gelding is not done yet, he is the one to beat at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday.
Sugar Mountain can make it eight wins teaming up with jockey Aldo Domeyer, who knows him like the back of his hand, and his 12th career win overall in Race 3, an A Stakes over 1500m. He is best weighted again with next best, Get Impressed and Oliver, coming 4kg out with him.
The bay gelding is drawn in gate No 4, from where he has won two of his last three starts, his other win came in gate No 3 and he rates as the banker bet.
There are four Winter Country Championship Finals run on the day, and most of them look to be competitive but Race 6, the Winter Country Championship 1000m Final, looks a straight fight between two three-year-olds, October Storm and She’s My World. Both have shown promise but the latter took a while to get into it over 1200m and may find 1000m short.
October Storm, on the other hand, won easily over 1000m on debut before finding the going too heavy thereafter. She has the best of the draws to boot.
