Jack Milner
Wootton Basset was one of the leading sires in the world for a number of years and his death in September was a huge loss to the world of horseracing.
However, we are fortunate to have one of his progeny racing in South Africa and Rose Woott could pick up where she left off last time when she lines up in Race 6 at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Wednesday in a Class D Stakes over 1800m.
This three-year-old filly was bred in Australia and is out of a High Chapparal mare so comes from a potent line and is owned by Sabine Plattner and trained by Andre Nel.
She took a couple of runs to find her feet but third time out she found her stride to win more comfortably than the 0.75-length margin may suggest. This time she goes out over 1800m and should be even better suited to the additional 200m.
Since this is a Stakes race and is open to all sexes, Rose Woott does get a fillies’ weight allowance so comes in as one of the best weighted runners in the field.
She is perfectly drawn in gate No 1 and will have the services of Keagan de Melo.
The horse Rose Woott beat into second place, La Patrona, is also in action on the card. Trained by Candice Bass, she was sent off at 40-1 for that race but gave plenty of cheek and was beaten just 0.75 lengths.
La Patrona lines up in Race 1, a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1800m.
She has gone from jumping from a wide stall previously to gate No 2. She is a filly from a high-profile German family and should start things off nicely for favourite players.
A good run by this filly will enhance the chances of Rose Woott. Aldo Domeyer takes the ride.
