Bafana Bafana now know their opponents for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations following Monday’s ceremony in Rabat, Morocco.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) hosted the event at the Mohammed V National Theatre, revealing the six groups for the tournament, which will run from December 2025 to 18 January 2026. Hosts Morocco will kick off the competition against Comoros in Group A on the opening day.
AFCON 2025 Groups:
Group A: Morocco, Mali, Zambia, Comoros
Group B: Egypt, South Africa, Angola, Zimbabwe
Group C: Nigeria, Tunisia, Uganda, Tanzania
Group D: Senegal, DR Congo, Benin, Botswana
Group E: Algeria, Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea, Sudan
Group F: Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Gabon, Mozambique
Bafana Bafana, placed in Pot 2 for the draw due to their December FIFA ranking, were drawn into Group B alongside Egypt, Angola, and Zimbabwe. As one of the tournament’s most anticipated groups, it pits South Africa against the record seven-time AFCON champions Egypt and regional rivals Zimbabwe. Angola rounds off the group with their experienced squad eager to make a strong impression.

The tournament will feature 24 teams divided into six groups of four, with the top two teams from each group and the four best third-placed teams advancing to the knockout stage. As the countdown begins, South Africa will look to build on their recent strong performances and secure a deep run in the competition.
