Trent Alexander-Arnold has officially announced his departure from Liverpool at the end of the 2024/2025 season, concluding a remarkable 20-year association with the club. The 26-year-old right-back is set to join Real Madrid on a free transfer, having verbally agreed to a five-year contract reportedly worth around £7.5 million annually after tax.

Liverpool had hoped to retain Alexander-Arnold, offering a contract that would have made him the highest-paid full-back in Premier League history. However, the player opted for a move to Spain, seeking to test himself in a new environment. The club acknowledged his decision, stating, “Alexander-Arnold will depart with our gratitude and appreciation for his contribution during a sustained period of success.”
Real Madrid is reportedly eager to have Alexander-Arnold available for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, which begins on June 14. To facilitate this, they have approached Liverpool to negotiate an early release before his contract officially expires on June 30.
At Real Madrid, Alexander-Arnold will join fellow England international Jude Bellingham and is expected to fill the right-back position, addressing the club’s need in that area due to injuries and squad changes. His versatility may also see him deployed in midfield roles under the anticipated management of Xabi Alonso.
Alexander-Arnold’s final appearance for Liverpool is expected to be against Crystal Palace on May 25, where he will participate in the Premier League trophy presentation, marking the end of a significant chapter in his career.
