Orlando Pirates’ push for the PSL title suffered a setback on Saturday after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Siwelele FC at Orlando Stadium. The Buccaneers dominated large spells of the match but were unable to turn their chances into three points, leaving the door open for rivals Mamelodi Sundowns in the title race.

Pirates created numerous opportunities throughout the game but were repeatedly denied by Siwelele goalkeeper Ricardo Goss, who delivered an outstanding performance and made 11 saves to keep his side in the contest.
Siwelele Strike First
Despite Pirates’ early pressure, it was Siwelele who took the lead in the 29th minute, when Vincent Pule fired home after capitalising on a turnover in the Pirates half.
The Buccaneers continued to push forward and eventually found their equaliser early in the second half. Tshepang Moremi scored in the 51st minute, finishing a well-weighted pass from Thalente Mbatha to level the score.
However, Pirates were unable to find a winner despite dominating the closing stages of the match.
Missed Opportunity for Pirates
The draw means Pirates remain top of the table with 48 points, but the gap to second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns is now extremely narrow. Sundowns sit just one point behind and still have a game in hand, giving them the chance to move above the Buccaneers if results go their way.
With the 2025/26 PSL season entering its decisive phase, every dropped point becomes increasingly costly in what is shaping up to be a tight title race.
Title Race Still Wide Open
While Pirates will view Saturday’s result as two points lost, the race for the PSL crown is far from over. With several matches remaining, both Pirates and Sundowns will need to maintain consistency as the battle for the title intensifies.
For Pirates, the challenge now is clear: quickly bounce back and ensure that the draw against Siwelele does not prove decisive when the season reaches its final stretch.
