Orlando Pirates have appointed Abdeslam Ouaddou, a former Morocco international defender, as their new head coach, succeeding José Riveiro. The 46-year-old earned 68 caps for Morocco and played across top European leagues, including stints at Fulham, Rennes, and Olympiacos.

Transitioning into coaching in recent years, he led Marumo Gallants, steering them to mid-table safety in the 2024/25 PSL season after a relegation fight. Ouaddou also held roles with AS Vita (DR Congo) and Algeria’s national team under Djamel Belmadi.
He’ll arrive in South Africa later this week ahead of a pre-season kickoff on 27 June, followed by a training camp in Spain with friendlies against European sides. His coaching staff includes Mandla Ncikazi, Rayaan Jacobs, Helmi Gueldich, and Tyron Damons.
Pirates are banking on Ouaddou’s international pedigree, defensive strength, and tactical awareness to drive the club forward and continue their recent run of domestic success.
