Test for Baie Mooi

Henk Steenkamp

The four-year-old Canford Cliffs filly Baie Mooi faces her toughest test to date but can make it a hat-trick of wins at the Fairview Polytrack on Tuesday.

She will take her place in the small field of five runners in the Middle Stakes over 1200m. This is race three on the card of eight races and the first leg of the Pick Six at 13:40.

Baie Mooi impressed with two easy victories but takes on the boys for the first time now. She is weighted to win this and many punters will be tempted to start the Pick Six with a banker.

The combination of trainer Alan Greeff and jockey Richard Fourie is in sublime form and another big effort is expected.

Imaginable, with Craig Zackey aboard, is the danger. This sixth-year-old has been at the top of his game since joining the Gavin Smith stable.

With a light weight Wordsworth could make his presence felt. Apprentice jockey Giresh Dookhit had a good start to the season and will be ready to take his opportunity.

The meeting starts with an Open Maiden at 12:30. Jet Querari (Smith) must be included in this first leg of the Bipot but it is competitive.

Fourie will be on the favourite Winter Emeralds in race two, the first leg of the Place Accumulator, at 13:05.

Golden Pavilion has been a star at Fairview since joining the Smith yard. He will have many supporters in the first leg of the Jackpot, race four at 14:15.

Don’t miss the seventh race, a MR 80 Handicap over 2000m, where there are a handful of runners in great form.

Red William (Sharon Kotzen) and George Handel (Zietsman Oosthuizen) will both be looking for a third win in a row.

The biggest field on the day is the 11 runners in the lucky last and it looks a wide open handicap over 2000m to end the meeting on an exciting note – as always, let’s give it a go!
